The Alliance Healthcare Education Group uses the Sim Lab, formerly operated by Cox College, to provide students with hands-on healthcare education and training. The Sim Lab currently uses Sortly as its inventory management system; however, Sortly was designed primarily for retail inventory management and does not efficiently support the specific needs of the Sim Lab. The current process for preparing a room for students requires employees to receive an order from a school, manually count the materials needed, record on paper which room and school the materials are assigned to, and then set up the room. After the students complete their training, employees must count any unused materials and compare the remaining inventory with the original order to ensure that the school is charged correctly.

This process requires employees to enter or record inventory information multiple times, creating unnecessary work and increasing the possibility of errors or inaccurate inventory counts. The current system also makes it more difficult for employees to quickly determine what schools are assigned to what materials, and when supplies need to be reordered.

Our project will focus on developing a more efficient inventory management system specifically designed around the workflow of the Sim Lab. The system will include a database for maintaining accurate records of current materials and their quantities. A barcode system will allow employees to quickly check materials in and out while reducing the amount of manual data entry required. The system will also provide daily notification when materials fall below their designated reorder thresholds. By combining these features, the project aims to reduce repetitive work, improve inventory accuracy, simplify material tracking, and make the overall room setup and inventory process more efficient for Sim Lab employees.

The problem our client has is he is currently running a local business with no website and no way to expand to online ordering. Because he doesn’t currently have an online ordering system, he has no way to receive orders outside of his city. Because of this the client has asked us to create him a website with some key features. These features include an online ordering system that allows customers to create a user, place their order, and track it. He also wants to be able to handle event scheduling for his store and a newsletter, the event scheduler needs to be customizable by the client and give him ease of access to add and edit events in the future. The website must also be able to process payment for the client, and to this end we plan on using a third part of the service. Some other small features include an admin dashboard, site and order statistics that can also track trends on products and services as well as a wireframe that will give him a template to add other pages in the future and a user doc that will explain features and how to access them.

To accomplish this, we plan on using Python and Django for the backend, PostgreSQL for the database and HTML, CSS and Javascript for the front end. We also plan on setting up a host for his website within his budget. Our plan is to implement one key feature at a time and get feedback from the client to ensure we stay on the right track, and any confusions or changes can be made immediately without requiring us to handle all changes near the finish line.

This project involves developing an inventory management web application that our client will use to manage and track their vending machine business, which is expected to expand rapidly over the next several months. One of the application’s primary functions will be to track inventory across various vending machine locations. These locations will be displayed on an interactive map of Springfield and the surrounding areas, with icons representing individual vending machines or groups of machines. Users will be able to view basic information about each location and click on individual locations for more detailed information, such as the date of the last restock, estimated future restocking needs, and how popular certain vending machine locations are compared to others.

In addition to the map, the application will feature a dashboard displaying various business metrics and potentially notifying users when certain machines need attention. For example, the dashboard could notify the user when a machine has not been restocked for an extended period and may need to be serviced soon. Many of these metrics will be presented through graphs and charts to make the information easier to understand. All relevant information will be stored in a SQL database, with backups potentially managed through a service such as Cloudflare R2. We also plan to implement a biweekly or monthly backup schedule that will allow the client to download and store copies of the database on their own computer for additional redundancy.

In terms of the technology stack, we will likely use Bluehost as the hosting solution for the web application, with HTML and CSS for the frontend and JavaScript for the backend, depending on the hosting plan’s capabilities. For data visualization and performance metrics, we may implement Python with Plotly or use Chart.js . For UX design, we will use Miro and potentially Figma to create and present proposed user interface designs to the client. Git and GitHub will be used for version control throughout development. For the database, we plan to use a SQL-based solution and will evaluate Bluehost’s database backup options alongside Cloudflare R2 to determine the most appropriate approach for maintaining reliable backups.
